Project: GREEN LUNGS OF POLISH – BREATH OF HISTORY BREEZE OF PRESENT
PROJECT: GREEN LUNGS OF POLISH – BREATH OF HISTORY BREEZE OF PRESENT is a innovative look at more than a thousand years of history, heritage, national identity entered into the hearts of the inhabitants of the north-eastern part of the Catholic Poland. Inhabitants want to share its experience with the participants of the World Youth Day in 2016. The project, built from three components implemented on the local level, involves breaking stereotypes in the perception of our country by foreigners (experience gained from the study visit), raising the level of communication skills of our citizens as hosts of World Youth Day in the Diocese (guided classes), and the consolidation of experience in the form of visual media (website, mobile application and participant illustrated handy notepad).
The Mysteries of Light
The route is about 170 km long and leads though picturesque towns and villages, Augustów Forest, nature reserves and Wigry National Park. Pilgrimage through the Papal Trail The Luminous Mysteries is a unique opportunity to experience God, history and nature of our beautiful region of Mazury, Augustów, Sejny and Suwałki.
The Mysteries of Trust
The route of this Papal Trail is based on the kayak trip Karol Wojtyła took with young academics from Cracow in 19th July 1954. Nine participants and their Uncle (this is how they called Karol Wojtyła at a time) reached Augustów – their final destination on 31st July 1954.
Apostles of Mercy
The route of the third Papal Trail in the Diocese of Ełk commemorates Wojtyła’s kayak trip in 1957. In July and August of 1957 the future Pope, together with a group of young academics from Cracow, sailed from Sorkwit. It is worth mentioning that for the four academics – Danuta and the Servant of God Jerzy Ciesielski as well as Danuta and Stanisław Rybicki – the trip was a part of their honeymoon. The trail was open on 21st August 2015 as an initiative of the Bishop of the Ełk Diocese Jerzy Mazur SVD.
